Depository facility of the Regional Museum Prague - East The exact periode of its construction is not known. We can anyway presume from the written sources that it was built somewhere in the half of 16th century. The executioners lived here, in the house Nr. 213 in Brandýs nad Labem, from the beginning of the 17th century till 1790, when the last of them died. The empress Maria Theresa of Austria namely took away the Right of execution from the town of Brandýs. The executioner?s house was built in the Renaissance style and despite all the reconstructions and modifications it keeps always the Renaissance character up to the present day, when we are gripped by the sgaffito decorations of its facade. Regional Museum Prague-East got it in the half of 1960s, when the building was in very poor technical conditions. Today, an exhibition specialized in the criminal law is installed on the ground floor of the building. Examples of written documents of the period and some torture instruments make part of the exhibition. |
